Independent Tourists
TRAVELS WITH PAM AND MIKE
Since we retired in 2003, we have had the good fortune to be able to visit many of the places we always wanted to see, but never had the time (or money) to do so. We have taken hundreds of photographs and have accumulated even more memories, some good, some not so good, but mostly wonderful. We want to share some of these memories with our friends who have not (yet) been able to accompany us on our travels. This is probably better than having to sit through a slide show or thumb through our photo albums! It also gives Mike an opportunity to try a little travel writing.
We have included in this site information about the places we have visited, including links to sites that we think would be of use to other travelers. We consider ourselves independent travelers, rather than tourists who depend on prearranged tours, who stay in first class hotels and see only the well-traveled sites. We think we get more for our investment of time and money by staying in small hotels (the kind that are too small for the big tour groups) and including in our planning plenty of time for exploring the “back streets”, mingling with the locals when possible.
We are often asked which was our best trip. In all honestly we have enjoyed every single trip. However, I think my favorite single trip was the three weeks we spent in Peru. It was one of our least expensive trips, but we saw so many interesting sights and met so many interesting people that it will always rank as a favorite destination. Having said that, I am fascinated with the archeology of Italy, which is why I have visited there six times!
We welcome comments and inquiries by email. Click on the photos below to join us as we spend our children’s inheritance on our travels!
